Teams of 2 or 3 people mapped approximately 80 river miles between the Stockton deep water channel and the confluence with the Merced River. Data were collected by kayak, mud boat, and jet boat. Revetment type and quality data were collected on field datasheets, endpoints were mapped using handheld GPS, and photographs were taken of each site. Garmin GPSmap 76CSx GPS units were used to take waypoints at the begining and end of each segment of revetment or at the transition between types of revetment. When the bank type changed either from revetment type or to natural, the length of the change had to be >10 meters to be mapped as two endpoints. For example, if a bank was continuously rocked with the same type of revetment for 300m, but there was a small section <10 meters of rubble in the middle of the rocked section, the entire section would be mapped as rock. However, if the rubble section in the middle was >10 in length, then 3 seperate sections were mapped (rock, rubble, then rock). Basically we used a 10m minimum mapping unit for features UNLESS a small section of revetment was on a natural bank. For lengths of revetment <10m that are on an otherwise natural bank (an end dump from truck for example), we took a point at the center of the revetment, estimated the length in the field, marked it in our notes and used the point to create a line in the line file of a similar length OR if we did not estimate the length in the field, we gave each line the approximate length of 5 meters in the office, using the point as the centerpoint. Many of the points, when overlayed on NAIP 2012 photography and our 2009 channel (derived from the pre-existing bank lines from the Central Valley Riparian Mapping Project datasets ds292 and ds273) did not land exactly on the channel lines. This is due to various reasons including accuracy of the GPS units, how close to the location we could get in the field, river channel movement and stage differences. Breaks in the lines were made using the GPS locations and notes as a guide. We imported the field GPS data into a GIS and used the points to split right and left bank lines into segments. The features documented on the datasheets were keyed into the GIS for each corresponding bank segment, which became the baseline revetment dataset.Field data sheets on waterproof paper were used to document bank conditions. These data were keyed into the GIS feature class in the office. Original datasheets and GPS point files are not included and will be held by Adam Henderson.Pre-existing bank lines from the Central Valley Riparian Mapping Project (vegetation mapped to the National Vegetation Classification System (NVCS) group level) and Sacramento San Joaquin Legal Delta (CDFW) mapping project were used. The riverine (ds723) and water (ds292) classifications on the San Joaquin were extracted from each parent dataset. These classified polygons were split into lines and cleaned to provide banklines for the channel represented in ds723 and ds292. We imported the field GPS data into a GIS and used the points to split right and left bank lines into segments. The features documented on the datasheets were keyed into the GIS for each corresponding bank segment, which became the baseline revetment dataset.Field Data Collection Team:Adam Henderson, Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist), DWR FESSRORon Melcer, Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist), DWR FESSROMike Roberts, Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist), DWR FESSRORay McDowell, Program Manager I, DWR FESSROBill Powell, Vessel Fleet Mechanic, USFWS Lodi OfficeData Development Team:Adam Henderson, Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist), DWR FESSROAlison Groom, Research Analyst II, DWR NROMark Chin, Environmental Scientist, DWR FESSROParent Channel Data Metadata:These data can be found here as of 11/17/14http://www.dfg.ca.gov/biogeodata/gis/veg.asp ", "geometryType": "esriGeometryPolyline", "copyrightText": "", "parentLayer": { "id": 3, "name": "Bank Revetment" }, "subLayers": [], "minScale": 0, "maxScale": 0, "drawingInfo": { "renderer": { "type": "simple", "symbol": { "type": "esriSLS", "style": "esriSLSSolid", "color": [ 255, 0, 0, 255 ], "width": 1.5 }, "label": "", "description": "" }, "transparency": 0, "labelingInfo": null }, "defaultVisibility": true, "extent": { "xmin": 645293.2061999999, "ymin": 4135558.971999999, "xmax": 679490.8202999998, "ymax": 4201697.682499999, "spatialReference": { "wkid": 26910, "latestWkid": 26910 } }, "hasAttachments": false, "htmlPopupType": "esriServerHTMLPopupTypeAsHTMLText", "displayField": "STREAMNAME", "typeIdField": null, "fields": [ { "name": "Shape", "type": "esriFieldTypeGeometry", "alias": "Shape", "domain": null }, { "name": "OBJECTID_1", "type": "esriFieldTypeInteger", "alias": "OBJECTID_1", "domain": null }, { "name": "BANK_TYPE2", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "BANK_TYPE2", "length": 50, "domain": null }, { "name": "STREAMNAME", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "STREAMNAME", "length": 50, "domain": null }, { "name": "BANK_TYPE", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "BANK_TYPE", "length": 50, "domain": null }, { "name": "BANK_TYPE3", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "BANK_TYPE3", "length": 25, "domain": null }, { "name": "RIVER_BANK", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "RIVER_BANK", "length": 10, "domain": null }, { "name": "ROCK_COVER", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "ROCK_COVER", "length": 100, "domain": null }, { "name": "REV_SIZE", "type": "esriFieldTypeString", "alias": "REV_SIZE", "length": 50, "domain": null }, { "name": "Date", "type": "esriFieldTypeDate", "alias": "Date", "length": 8, "domain": null }, { "name": "Shape_Leng", "type": "esriFieldTypeDouble", "alias": "Shape_Leng", "domain": null }, { "name": "OBJECTID", "type": "esriFieldTypeOID", "alias": "OBJECTID", "domain": null }, { "name": "Shape_Length", "type": "esriFieldTypeDouble", "alias": "Shape_Length", "domain": null } ], "relationships": [], "canModifyLayer": false, "canScaleSymbols": false, "hasLabels": false, "capabilities": "Map,Query,Data", "maxRecordCount": 1000, "supportsStatistics": true, "supportsAdvancedQueries": true, "supportedQueryFormats": "JSON, AMF", "ownershipBasedAccessControlForFeatures": {"allowOthersToQuery": true}, "useStandardizedQueries": true, "advancedQueryCapabilities": { "useStandardizedQueries": true, "supportsStatistics": true, "supportsOrderBy": true, "supportsDistinct": true, "supportsPagination": true, "supportsTrueCurve": true, "supportsReturningQueryExtent": true, "supportsQueryWithDistance": true }, "dateFieldsTimeReference": null }
