Description: Small Communities defined as greater than 200 and less than 10,000 population in the SPFC Levee Flood Protection Zones. Note several of these identified locations are not recognized officially. Examples include Hallwood, Stoneridge and Wetherbee Island among others. Several were located based on a “Small Communities Flood Risk Reduction Program (FRRP) Funding Awards 2022” prepared by DWR's Floodplain Management Branch. Provenance for those is unknown. In other cases, best available location based on description was used. Hallwood is a good example of this. It does not exist in the USGS GNIS nor in CA populated place gazetteers. There appeared to be a consensus that Seven-Mile House constituted a reasonable representative location which is what was used. From CVFPP 2027: "Within the Central Valley, small communities are developed areas with populations between 200 and 10,000 residents. Flood risk reduction efforts for these communities target a 100-year level of flood protection (1% annual chance of flooding)."
