Description: On December 2, 2012, DWR Northern Region Office staked the high-water event and measured the corresponding flow of Elder Creek through the SPFC project area near Gerber, CA. Flow measurement was done at San Benito Bridge. During the high-water event, the current water level was staked and the time of staking was noted. When possible, a stake was also placed at the estimated peak high-water location for the event based upon debris and other visible evidence.Note: High-water mark data are one of the best sources for calibrating hydraulic models; however, high-water mark data have inherent inaccuracies. Oftentimes, high-water marks are estimated from debris deposits. Debris deposits rarely form a nice, narrow, well defined line. Wind and wave action can cause debris to be washed higher than the actual water-surface elevation. High-water marks in overbank areas are often higher than they are in the channel.
